Rachel Zegler Had A Breast Cancer Scare At 19: 'Scariest Week Of My Life'
Rachel Zegler got candid about an unforgettable health scare that she had when she was 19.
The "West Side Story" actress took to her Instagram Stories feed Saturday to share an experience, which she described as the "scariest week of my life."
"Two years ago, I found a lump in my breast and went through what was undoubtedly the scariest week of my life," Zegler said, reported ET Canada. "No OB/GYN was taking new patients due to the backlog of the pandemic, but I was fortunate to have the care of my pediatrician who prescribed me an ultrasound, which led to an outpatient biopsy procedure."
Though frightening, the experience taught Zegler one important lesson.
"Thankfully it was benign," she said. "And now the scar serves as a reminder to check my breasts regularly for any irregular growth – the fibroadenoma in my left breast is a common occurrence but nevertheless extremely scary to find."
She concluded her post by highlighting the need for regular check-ups.
"Early detection saves lives!!!" she wrote. "Check your t**ty meat :)."
Zegler had spoken about her health issues in the past as well. In 2018, she tweeted, "Hello. My name is Rachel. I suffer from anxiety and depression, and occasionally feel depersonalized/disassociated from reality. I am a work in progress. I am finding the common ground between me and my mind. And that's enough. But please, ask if I'm okay. #EndTheStigma."
In March, she revealed that she was not attending the Academy Awards because she did not get an invite. Angered by the snub, her fans took to social media and called out the award-giving body about her exclusion from the event. The "Snow White" star took note of the fan's reactions and tweeted, "appreciate all the support, i really really do. we live in such unprecedented times, and a lot of work behind the scenes goes into making movie magic happen."
Following the outcry, Zegler revealed she was invited by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as a presenter at the ceremony, along with Jason Momoa, Jacob Elordi and Serena Williams.
