Racism is a fading tale in many parts of the world but this doesn’t seem to be the case for a certain student in Badger High school located in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.

Apparently, an image circulated on different social media platforms featuring a disturbing note puportedly written by a student from the school. According to this image, the student who posted it was asking a friend to a homecoming dance which was to take place on a Saturday (Sept. 21) at Bar 17 in downtown Lampasas.

The message on the poster read, "If I was black, I'd be picking cotton. But I'm white, so I'm picking you up for homecoming." The racist tone raised a lot of controversy, especially among parents. "I was appalled and wanted to cry," Karen Lake, a Badger High School parent told WITI.

"It's absolutely ridiculous. There's no place for it in society. It's hatred," Lake added. "Not only do I have two children that are mixed race, I just can't believe this would be tolerated in the school," she said, reported WITI.

“This child should be banned from his homecoming dance,” Robin Jenkins a Facebook user commented under a WTVR CBS 6 news post in Facebook. “The kid should be publicly identified and this should go into his school record that is sent to any college he applies to,” James Millner, another Facebook user, added.

Danny Whites, who is also a parent of a student from the same school, commends his kids for being disciplined. He told WITI that his children alerted him of the post. "Thankfully, my kids are raised right and know how to treat people no matter what the color of their skin is."

Jim Gottinger, the Superintendent Lake Geneva Schools, told WITI: “Appropriate disciplinary action has been taken.”

The student's act was condemned by the school administration. They said in a statement: “Last night, District and Badger Administrators became aware of a racially insensitive post involving a Badger High School student that began circulating on social media. The school district is investigating this situation and is working with students, parents, staff and local authorities.”

"We want to be very clear: Badger High School is a hate-free environment where all people, regardless of race, color, religion, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, or ancestry are respected and celebrated."
