A Florida radio host who criticized the COVID-19 vaccine and referred to himself as “Mr. Anti-Vax” died Saturday night after becoming infected with the virus.

Marc Bernier worked in Dayton Beach at WNBD, which publicy confirmed his death on Saturday. It came three weeks after he was hospitalized for the COVID-19 infection. Bernier was 65 years old.

The conservative broadcaster told a guest on his show in December that “I’m not taking it … Are you kidding me? Mr. Anti-Vax? Jeepers."

“It’s with great sadness that WNDB and Southern Stone Communications announce the passing of Marc Bernier, who informed and entertained listeners on WNDB for over 30 years. We kindly ask that privacy is given to Marc’s family during this time of grief,” WNBD said in a statement.

Bernier, who was from Rhode Island, moved to the Daytona Beach area and gained popularity for his outspoken conservative views.

His opposition to the COVID-19 vaccine wasn’t the first time he spoke out about vaccinations. For over three decades, Bernier discussed a variety of topics, including different vaccinations. Bernier often interviewed top White House officials and congressmen.

His death comes amid the spread of the more transmissible Delta variant. Hospitals in right-leaning states that have pushed back against COVID-19 health mandates have been overwhelmed by cases.

Unvaccinated people reportedly make up the majority of the recent uptick in positive COVID-19 cases across the nation. In late July, an ABC News survey found that of the 271 total COVID patients in intensive care units, 255 patients, or approximately 94%, were not vaccinated.
