Rafael Nadal: List Of Records The 21-Grand Slam Winner Can Achieve At Roland Garros
KEY POINTS
- Nadal lost Round of 16 game at the Italian Open on Thursday
- Canada's Denis Shapovalov defeated Nadal in three sets
- French Open 2022 is scheduled to begin on May 22
Rafael Nadal could claim a few special records at the upcoming edition of Roland Garros. With an incredible 105 victories in 108 games and 13 titles, Nadal has a phenomenal run at the French Open.
Apart from his 105 wins at Roland Garros, Nadal has triumphed in 76 games at the Australian Open, 53 at Wimbledon and 64 at the US Open. If Nadal wins his first two games at Roland Garros, he'll join Roger Federer (369) and Novak Djokovic (323) as the only male players with 300 or Grand Slam match wins, according to Sportskeeda.
Earlier this year, when Nadal won the Australian Open, he beat Djokovic and Federer to become the first men's player to win 21 singles major titles. Nadal and Djokovic are also the only players in the Open Era to win a multiple career Grand Slam.
The left-hander, who is one of the only three players to win 50 matches and reach five finals in each of the four Grand Slams, could become the third player to reach 30 Grand Slam men's singles finals if he reaches the final at 2022 Roland Garros. Federer and Djokovic have played 31 major finals so far.
The current World No. 4, Nadal, has reached six title matches at the Australian Open (won two), 13 at Roland Garros (won all), five at Wimbledon (won two) and six at the US Open (won four).
The 35-year-old, who recently returned from an injury lay-off, lost to Canada's Denis Shapovalov in the Round of 16 fixture of the Italian Open on Thursday.
By winning the upcoming Roland Garros, Nadal could move to third on the all-time Grand Slam singles titles list (men and women combined).
Nadal has a golden opportunity to increase the deficit in the men's leaderboard ahead of his favorite Grand Slam in Paris, which is scheduled to begin on May 22. He is currently three titles behind Margaret Court, who won 24 women's singles titles.
Another title for Nadal at Roland Garros would be his 22nd major trophy, putting him level with Steffi Graf. Serena Williams has one title more than Graf.
