Raiders Rumors: Le'Veon Bell, Free-Agent Lineman On Oakland's Radar After Antonio Brown Trade
The Oakland Raiders made the biggest splash of the 2019 NFL offseason when they traded for Antonio Brown. With more money to spend under the salary cap than most of the league, the organization might not be done adding All-Pro players.
Oakland is considered to be a possible landing spot for Brown’s former teammate with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Along with the New York Jets, the Raiders are a candidate to sign Le’Veon Bell.
Bell is expected to sign with the team that offers him the most guaranteed money. Oakland is in a position to give him plenty of money over the next few seasons, though they have used a portion of their more than $60 million in cap space on Brown.
Only four teams scored fewer points than the Raiders in 2018. Oakland was 25th in the NFL in rushing yards. Doug Martin led the team with 723 yards on the ground, and they haven’t had a 1,000-yard rusher since 2015.
The Raiders reportedly made another trade not long after acquiring Brown. They sent left guard Kelechi Osemele to the Jets. The veteran has a $10.2 million cap hit for the 2019 NFL season.
Don’t be surprised if Oakland replaces Osemele’s salary with another highly paid offensive lineman. The Raiders could make a play for offensive tackle Trent Brown, who will be in line for a big payday after winning the Super Bowl with the New England Patriots.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Raiders have re-signed defensive lineman Johnathan Hankins to a two-year contract. Hankins had 36 tackles for Oakland last season.
Free-agent signings can become official at 4 p.m. EDT Wednesday.
