KEY POINTS

  • "Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege" is headed to Game Pass on Oct. 22
  • Game Pass subscribers who plan to buy the Xbox Series X or S will immediately be able to play
  • This came after the official Xbox Game Pass Twitter account teased the game's arrival over the weekend

“Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege” is coming to all consoles and Android devices courtesy of Game Pass later this week.

In a blog post, Microsoft confirmed that Ubisoft's shooter will be joining the service on Oct. 22. Aside from Xbox One consoles, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members wil also be able to play “Rainbow Six Siege” on Android devices via cloud gaming.

This announcement comes a few days after the official Xbox Game Pass Twitter account posted a cryptic tweet over the weekend. The image showed a castle under siege with six rainbows displayed above it. That image was enough to convince fans that the online tactical shooter video game was on its way to Microsoft’s subscription service.

The online tactical shooter video game was first released in 2015 and allows players to assume the roles of attacker or defender in game play modes that range from rescuing a hostage, defusing a bomb and taking control of an objective within a room.

Thanks to frequent updates and a massive community, VG24/7 hailed “Rainbow Six Siege” as one of the most successful multiplayer titles from Ubisoft.

Just last month, Ubisoft announced that the game will get a free next-gen console upgrade, which means existing players will be able to get the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 versions of the game at no extra cost when upgrading. They just need to upgrade within the same family of consoles (i.e., PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5 or Xbox One to Xbox Series X).

The next-gen versions of “Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege” will run at 120 frames per second in 4K resolution.

Its arrival on the Game Pass service means that when the Xbox Series X and digital-only Xbox Series S launch on Nov. 10, the game will be immediately playable on next-gen consoles for Game Pass subscribers.

Although the title is not among the games officially launching with the PlayStation 5 on Nov. 12 so far, things may still change in the coming weeks. The PS5 will launch in the U.S., Japan, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea on that date, with the rest of the world gaining access on Nov. 19.

This August saw the commander and head field operative of Fourth Echelon Sam Fisher from 2002 Ubisoft title “Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell” being confirmed as the new “Operator Zero.” Fisher’s jump to “Rainbow Six Siege” provided a connection between the two games within the Clancy/Ubisoft universe of spy titles.
