Ramie Marie Grimmer's Brother, Timothy, Dead After Being Shot by Mother
Ramie Marie Grimmer's 10-year-old brother, Timothy, has succumbed to a gunshot wound after being shot by his mother, Rachelle Grimmer, in Laredo, Texas, on Monday.
Timothy died on Thursday, one day after his 12-year-old sister, Ramie, died of gunshot wounds inflicted by their 38-year-old mother. Their mother killed herself after shooting them.
Laredo police investigator Joe Baeza told The Associated Press that Timothy died on Thursday evening at a San Antonio hospital after he was removed from life support.
Ramie died on Wednesday at the same hospital, The AP reported.
The children's grandmother, Mary Lee Shepherd, told The AP that the children's father, Dale Grimmer, was at his critically wounded son's bedside on Thursday after which he consulted with doctors and decided to pull the plug.
He spent hours with Ramie and finally had to let her go, she told The AP. He's just concentrating in saying goodbye to his children.
Rachelle Grimmer shot her two children Monday at the Texas Department of Health and Human Services office in Laredo, reportedly out of frustration that the family was denied food stamps.
The mother went to the department to speak to a different caseworker and was taken to a private room to discuss the matter. It was there that she brandished her gun and held an employee and her children hostage.
Rachelle Grimmer let the health department worker go unharmed. But after several negotiations with authorities via telephone, the mother shot her two children and herself afterwards, police said.
After hearing the three shots, police entered the building to find Rachelle Grimmer's body and her two children suffering from gunshot wounds.
Texas Department of Health and Human Services spokeswoman Stephanie Goodman has told the media that Rachelle Grimmer first applied for food stamps in July. She was denied because didn't turn in enough information, Goodman added.
Prior to the murder-suicide, Ramie Grimmer posted chilling details of what went on in the last hours of her life in the Laredo health department.
