Puerto Rican rap duo Calle 13 led the contenders for the 10th annual Latin Grammys with five nominations, organizers said on Thursday, while Brazilian star Caetano Veloso and alternative Mexican band Cafe Tacvba were among the diverse acts with multiple mentions.

Calle 13 was nominated in the key categories of album of the year (Los De Atras Vienen Conmigo) and record of the year, (No Hay Nadie Como Tu with Cafe Tacvba).

The duo's album and song also yielded nominations for best urban music album and alternative song. Additionally, the group was nominated for shortform music video (La Perla with Ruben Blades).

Veloso was nominated for best singer-songwriter album (Zii e Zie), Brazilian song (A Cor Amarela), and best longform music video (E A Musica De Tom Jobim).

Other acts with three nominations each included Brazil's Ivan Lins & The Metropole Orchestra; musician/producer Jose Lugo; songwriter Jorge Luis Piloto; Brazilian star Ivete Sangalo; Puerto Rican salsa veteran Gilberto Santa Rosa; and Puerto Rican reggaeton duo Wisin y Yandel.

The awards, to be handed out in 49 categories, will be held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on November 5, and will be broadcast in the United States on Spanish-language broadcaster Univision.

The 2008 ceremony, held in Houston, drew 5.8 million viewers on Univision, down 6 percent from the previous year.

Lins will also compete for album of the year, with Regencia: Vince Mendoza, alongside Colombia's Andres Cepeda for Dia Tras Dia, Nicaragua's Luis Enrique for Ciclos, and Argentina's Mercedes Sosa for Cantora 1.

The Lins album was also nominated for best MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira), and his song Arlequim Desconhecido is up for record of the year.

Besides Lins and Calle 13, the other record of the year contenders were Luis Fonsi with Aleks Syntek, Noel Schajris and David Bisbal for Aqui Estoy Yo, the Jose Lugo Orchestra featuring Gilberto Santa Rosa for Si No Vas A Cocinar, and Italian pop singer Laura Pausini's En Cambio No.

Piloto landed two nominations for song of the year, a songwriter's award: He collaborated with Yoel Henriquez on Cepeda's Dia Tras Dia and with Jorge Villamizar on Luis Enrique's Yo No So Manana.

The other song nominees were Claudia Brant, Luis Fonsi and Gen Reuben for Aqui Estoy Yo (performed by Fonsi with Syntek, Schajris and Bisbal), Bebe and Carlos Jean for Me Fui (performed by Bebe), and Argentine musician Alejandro Lerner for his Verte Sonreir.

The best new artist nominees were Mexican singer/songwriter Alexander Acha, Colombian hip-hop group Chocquibtown, Claudio Corsi, Spanish flamenco artist India Martinez and Mexican-American singer Luz Rios.
