Rapper Mo3, known for his hit songs like “Gangsta Love” and “Hold Ya Tongue,” was fatally shot Wednesday in Dallas. He was 28.
The rapper, born Melvin Noble, passed away following a shooting incident on Interstate 35, CBS Dallas-Fort Worth first reported. Police declined to confirm with the outlet that the rapper was killed in the shooting. But authorities told TMZ that it was indeed Mo3 who died in the shooting.
According to a statement released by Dallas Police, the incident took place when Mo3 was approached by a suspect. Law enforcement sources also noted that the suspect, an adult Black male, was carrying a firearm.
“At approximately 11:55 a.m., an adult male victim was traveling northbound on I-35 at Clarendon Drive when he was approached by a suspect(s) driving what is believed to be a dark color car. The suspect, described as an adult Black male, exited his car armed with a firearm and began approaching the victim’s car,” Variety quoted police, as saying.
Police stated that the victim “exited his vehicle” and began running southward on the freeway to save himself. However, the suspect chased him and fired multiple shots at him.
“The victim was transported to an area hospital where he died from his injuries,” the police said.
A bystander inside another vehicle was also struck by gunfire, according to police. The second victim suffered no life-threatening injuries.
The rapper started his professional musical career by releasing a mixtape called “Shottaz” in 2014. His moment of glory came in 2006, when two of his songs, “Gangsta Love” and “Hold Ya Tongue,” became huge hits.
In October 2016, Mo3 released “4 Indictments” with Badazz and Hurricane Chris. Mo3 also opened for Badazz during his tour in Dallas.
The news of Mo3’s death comes almost a month after Thomas Jefferson Byrd, an actor who appeared in several Spike Lee films, was fatally shot at 2259 Belvedere Avenue in Atlanta.
