  • Warriors' Steph Curry is very likely to break Ray Allen's all-time three-point record this season
  • Allen has explained why comparing Curry and him doesn't make sense
  • The Dubs star is now less than 10 three-point shots away from setting a new NBA record

Golden State Warriors marksman Steph Curry is edging closer to dethroning Ray Allen as the best three-point shooter of all time.

The entire NBA community has been talking about Curry’s nearing breaking of Allen’s all-time record in three-point shots made. While it is safe to say that barring an unexpected injury, Curry will definitely replace retired Allen as no. 1 on the list, the latter thinks that making comparisons doesn’t make sense.

According to Allen, while he and Curry are both clutch players, they are two different beasts from beyond the arc. For the two-time NBA champion, his style was more like Curry’s Warriors “Splash Brother,” Klay Thompson.

“Klay [Thompson] is moving without the ball,” Allen recently said on “The Dan Patrick Show.” “He can shift the defense. When he gets open, everybody gets open, similar to how I played. I believe Steph is in a lane of his own that I don't think he has [a comparison].”

“I would compare Klay more to myself and Reggie [Miller] because we are moving without the ball, we're kind of on the weak side a lot, and throw [Richard] Hamilton even though Rip wasn't a big volume 3-point shooter,” he assessed. “But to be able to move the defense and to come off pin-downs and screens and shoot in transition without touching the ball is a real talent."

Allen further pointed out that Curry’s game is closer to that of his fellow All-Star point guard and Portland Trail Blazers player Damian Lillard.

"You can say [Curry] and Damian Lillard, with their ability to shoot from deep and be able to handle the ball and get into the paint,” the NBA Hall of Famer concluded. “But Steph gets to the paint more than Lillard does.”

As it stands, Curry is only six three-pointers away from tying Allen and seven three-pointers away from moving into first place.

Ahead of the Warriors’ game against the Philadelphia 76ers Saturday, the two-time NBA scoring champ admitted that he’s been having a lot of fun as he continues his three-point record chase.

“I enjoy this whole process,” Curry told NBC Sports. “Last year chasing (Reggie Miller) Reg for a couple [of] games, this year with knowing what the number is coming into the season and all that, I've only thought about it a little bit, just the astronomical dream of hitting 16 in a game or 15 at the time and what all that meant but other than that just enjoying the process because obviously, it's a major milestone, but it's something [that] will happen at the right time..”
