"Real Housewives of Atlanta" star Cynthia Bailey says her marriage with Mike Hill went downhill because of one important ingredient that every couple should have – a strong friendship.

Bailey revealed the reason for her split on the "Two T's in a Pod" podcast hosted by Tamra Judge and Teddi Mellencamp.

"I felt like we weren't friends anymore," she said on the latest episode of the podcast. "I felt like it was just going toward we're just not going to be friends if we didn't pump the brakes."

Bailey looked back on her relationship with ex-husband Peter Thomas, whom she divorced in 2016, and realized friendship was very important in a marriage.

"This is not my first rodeo," she said. "I think friendship just has to be there in a marriage. Like, love is great. But friendship has to be there. I truly want to be with my best friend."

The 55-year-old reality star filed for divorce from the 52-year-old TV personality in October after two years of marriage.

"God does not make mistakes! I truly believe in my heart Mike coming into my life was destiny. I jumped in, both feet first and gave it my all," she told People at the time.

"Although that journey has come to an end, I am so grateful for our continued friendship, and the beautiful memories that we made together," she added. "God willing, I will find love again. Whatever is destined to be, will be; and I could not be more excited for my next chapter!"

Technically, the pair is still married as their divorce is not yet finalized. However, Bailey said neither one of them "regrets" the decision to end the marriage, adding that she still has "a lot of respect" for Hill.

"It's not final yet. We're still going through the process, so we're still technically married," she said. "For me, there's still just a lot of respect stuff on my end that I still feel like he's my husband."

Bailey also revealed she took off her wedding ring for good on the day she announced the decision to go their separate ways.

"I took my ring off the day of the announcement but until then, I had it on all this time. Although, we were going through some things," she added. "It's just weird, you guys. It's just weird."
