Real-Life Ron Burgundy: Sportscaster Paul Gerke Impersonates Anchorman During KIVI Newscast
Viewers of a local news station in Idaho received quite the Halloween treat during the Thursday night newscast.
Sportscaster Paul Gerke of Boise's KIVI was more than dedicated to his costume, presenting his entire sports bulletin as the hilariously dramatic Ron Burgundy. The station's sports director remained in character throughout the four-minute segment, throwing out numerous quips and quotes from the 2004 hit movie “Anchorman: The Legend of Rob Burgundy.”
"I had ribs for lunch, that’s why I’m doing this," stated Gerke as he kicked off the segment by pretending he had food stuck in his teeth and attempting to pick it out. Speaking in a voice that closely resembled Burgundy’s, he even took a moment to talk about the new Dodge Durango -- sharing all of the vehicle’s features. Then seemingly overwhelmed by his own greatness, he exclaimed, “I’m in a glass case of emotion!”
His co-anchors were unable to hold it together, bursting out in fits of laughter during his newscast. But Gerke expertly remained in character until the newscast’s end – a tribute Ron Burgundy would most definitely applaud.
