KEY POINTS

  • Real Madrid is currently second place in the La Liga team standings
  • One of the key players on Real Madrid is goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois
  • Courtois has been consistent for Real Madrid and is in the conversation for a Zamora trophy

The lineup of Real Madrid is expected to perform well once the La Liga season returns in full bloom. One of the players anticipated to step up for the club is goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

Per The Real Champs, Real Madrid is looking at Courtois to maintain his stellar form in order for Los Blancos to achieve their goal of claiming the La Liga title. It has been a close affair on top of the team standings prior to the suspension of the season. With Barcelona leading the way with 58 points, Real Madrid is steadily behind them with 56.

While it may seem that Barcelona has control of the season, Real Madrid is one of the more favored teams to win all the way. Despite Barca boasting 18 wins, four draws and five losses, their matchup against Real Madrid did not go in their favor.

It was a 2-0 victory for Los Blancos that proved how their consistent team play is something to look out for in the deeper stretches of the season.

A big part of Real Madrid’s success can be pointed to the improvement of Courtois. While he’s had some rough patches in the earlier portion of the season, he’s steadily bounced back in elite form. The 28-year-old has proven across multiple times that he’s one of the more reliable starters for Zinedine Zidane and the team.

In the 2019-2020 campaign, Courtois suited up for 24 appearances and only conceded a goal 16 times. To add to this he’s also had 12 clean sheets throughout this stretch. This performance has him in the conversation of the Zamora trophy.

The growth Courtois displayed has been a big help and with the resumption of the games this month, Real Madrid’s fans are looking forward to the goalkeeper’s consistency.

It will be interesting to see how Real Madrid moves forward with their lineup once La Liga action returns. Expectations are high for the team and Courtois to step up if the club wants to achieve its goal of snagging the title away from the top-seeded Barcelona.
