Real Madrid Great Asks Zidane To Sign 2 Stars As He Mocks Barcelona's Griezmann
KEY POINTS
- Guti wants Real Madrid to sign Neymar and Kylian Mbappe
- Mbappe's current PSG is due to end in 2022
- Real Madrid are set to face Barcelona in La Liga on Saturday
Real Madrid legend Guti has said he would sign Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) duo of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe while taking a dig at FC Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann.
Mbappe, whose current deal with PSG is due to expire at the end of the 2021-22 season, has been heavily linked with a move to the Spanish capital. Neymar, who switched from Barcelona to PSG for a world-record fee of $263 million, has been linked earlier to Real Madrid.
Defending champions Real Madrid recently lost to Cadiz in La Liga before the Los Blancos suffered a 3-2 loss to Shakhtar Donetsk at home in their 2020-21 Champions League opener. On the other hand, Barcelona claimed a 5-1 victory in their Champions League match Tuesday.
Zinedine Zidane’s side is set to travel to Barcelona to take on the Lionel Messi-led side in the El Clasico clash Saturday. Ahead of the much-awaited fixture in the league, Guti has advised Zidane to rope in Neymar and Mbappe. The former midfielder, who represented Real Madrid between 1995 and 2010, also poked fun at Griezmann, who has struggled to settle at Camp Nou since his arrival from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2019.
"I'd sign Neymar and Kylian Mbappe for Real Madrid and for Barcelona I wouldn't sign anyone, just for Griezmann to stay," Guti said as he laughed while discussing the Clasico, as reported by Goal.
"There are many great players in this game, but I'm going for youngsters. Surely it'll be Ansu Fati at Barcelona and Vinicius [Junior] at Real Madrid [who can make an impact]. They're very talented players who are going to bring a lot to La Liga," added 43-year-old Guti.
Not just Real Madrid, but also Barcelona are coming off a loss in the league. Getafe defeated Barcelona 1-0 at home as Messi and Co have slipped to ninth spot in the points table, while Real Madrid are placed third.
"It won't determine who'll win La Liga, but it is an important match. Mentally, if a player does well or a team wins, then it can do you good for what is still to come in La Liga. It's a test for both of these teams to see what level they're at and to see what they can achieve this year," added Guti, who won five La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies during his playing career at the Santiago Bernabeu.
