Real Madrid Rumors: Plan For Marcelo To Make Champions League For Chelsea Clash Revealed
KEY POINTS
- Real Madrid will play Chelsea on May 5 in the second leg of their UCL semi-finals
- Marcelo has obligations to fulfill in Madrid on May 4 and cannot leave
- An expensive plan is in place for Marcelo to fly out to London and play the match
Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane insisted last weekend that Brazilian defender Marcelo will be available to play in the second leg of the Los Blancos' UEFA Champions League semi-final against Chelsea on Wednesday.
The Athletic reported the possibility of Marcelo missing the match as the left-back was selected to take duty in Madrid's elections scheduled on May 4.
But Zidane is confident Marcelo can make the trip ahead of their May 5 match at Stamford Bridge in London.
"Marcelo will fulfill his [elections] obligations but on Wednesday he will be with us," he said, per Goal.com.
Now, it seems a complicated plan is indeed in place for Marcelo to make it to London, reflecting what Zidane had stated.
AS detailed that a private jet will be utilized to transfer Marcelo from Spain to London on the eve of the important match.
The report estimates expenses for the trip alone will be around €20,000 ($24,000).
Marcelo was picked randomly as a table substitute in Madrid's elections, meaning he has to be on-call on Tuesday and cannot leave the city.
Fortunately, a jet will be on standby, and once Marcelo is done with his obligations, he will be able to fly out to London and rejoin his club.
It is a plan the Spanish powerhouse is willing to execute. The Blues played Real Madrid to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their semi-final meeting to take a slight advantage.
Marcelo and his offensive arsenal will definitely be a big boost for Real Madrid as question marks still surround the availability of center-back Raphael Varane and Ferland Mendy.
The defending La Liga winners might get additional support in the returning Sergio Ramos, who has missed a significant amount of time due to an injury.
The winner of the Real Madrid-Chelsea tie moves to the finals to face either Manchester City or PSG, where the English Premier League side currently leads on aggregate, 2-1.
