Real Madrid Star Is In 'Vicious Circle,' Team Doctor Worried Ahead Of European Championships
KEY POINTS
- Eden Hazard recently suffered a muscle issue
- He could be sidelined for a month at least
- He has scored four goals for Real Madrid since his arrival from Chelsea last season
Eden Hazard’s "chronic" injuries are worrying his national team’s doctor, according to whom the Real Madrid star is caught in a "vicious circle."
Hazard, earlier, was diagnosed with a muscle issue and Real Madrid have confirmed he is under their assessment and is expected to be out of action for up to a month.
"Following tests carried out today on our player, Eden Hazard, by Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in the rectus femoris of his left leg. His recovery will continue to be assessed," read Real Madrid’s official statement on their website.
The Belgian winger has been struck with a series of injuries since his $109 million-arrival to Santiago Bernabeu from Chelsea in the summer of 2019. His latest injury has marked the ninth time he has been forced to take an injury lay-off at Real Madrid. Since his La Liga debut in 2019, he has made only 35 competitive appearances for Los Blancos, scoring just four goals.
Kristof Sas, who works with the 30-year-old playmaker at Belgium national side, has admitted he is worried at how injury-prone Hazard has become in Spain, especially with the European Championships lined up later in the year.
"We are awaiting the details and knowing more, but it is clear that it is worrisome. The injuries at this stage of the season are not worrisome for the Euros, it is even a rest period. But with Eden it is different. It's another relapse, a chronic situation that always goes wrong in the end. First the ankle, then the muscle injuries. It's all very unpleasant," Sas told Dutch publication Nieuwsblad.
Hazard won’t feature in Real Madrid’s upcoming La Liga fixtures against Huesca, Getafe and Valencia, but the club is expecting him to return in time for their clash with Real Valladolid on Feb. 20.
"Eden is in a vicious circle and it's not easy to get out of it. It's disturbing what happens with his musculature. A footballer must be able to kick, turn, jump, all at high speed. And, of course, this is more difficult during rehabilitation. He needs pace and continuity. The situation is not dramatic for us yet, but must urgently get out of that dead end," Belgian’s team doctor further added in the same interview.
