  • Apple's AirPods are very popular but are quite pricey for many
  • Realme created a cheaper alternative to the AirPods, the Buds Air
  • The Buds Air offers many features such as some noise cancellation, but is sold for less than $100

Realme is releasing its own pair of true wireless stereo earphones, the Realme Buds Air. Here's a quick look at this new audio accessory.

By now, everybody knows what Apple's AirPods are. These little devices are true wireless stereo earbuds that allow users to listen to their music, make or take calls, and converse with Siri without any wires dangling around. These earbuds are so popular that the people behind them expect to continue making money from them until next year, even if the AirPods Pro is already out.

The AirPods, despite its popularity, isn't perfect for everyone. First, it comes in just one color, which is white. Second, it doesn't have noise cancellation but its more expensive brother, the AirPods Pro, does. Third, it doesn't allow Android users to maximize its features. Fourth, it's not cheap. Lastly, a wireless charging case will require buyers to pay more.

Chinese smartphone company Realme sought to solve all those issues and created the Buds Air, a cheaper alternative to the AirPods that comes in three colors, offers some noise cancellation, works with Android smartphones, offers wireless charging right out of the box, and costs less than $100. Sadly, it won't make an appearance in the U.S. yet. Here's a quick look at what the Buds Air offers:

Appearance

The Buds Air definitely looks like a pair of AirPods, complete with the protruding stem, but it comes in three colors: white, black and yellow. A quick look at the earbuds also reveals a small opening near the speakers on the buds themselves; this opening is meant for an optical sensor.

Wear detection

That aforementioned optical sensor is used to provide the Buds Air its Wear detection capabilities. The sensor will determine whether the Buds Air are worn or not, so that it can pause or play the music as needed.

Noise cancellation

The protruding stem features two microphones designed to give the Buds Air some noise cancellation capabilities called “Environment Noise Cancellation.” This technology identifies every word the user says and filters out other noises in the background.

Battery life and Wireless charging

The Buds Air lasts for only 3 hours with every charge. The charging case adds more battery life, allowing users a maximum of 17 hours of playtime, earbuds and charging case combined. The charging case can be charged wirelessly using Qi chargers.

Price

For now, Android Police reported, the Realme Buds Air will be sold only in India via FlipKart for only ₹3,999 ($56).
