Reassemble: Marvel, Square-Enix Partner On 'Avengers' Video Game
Just like Marvel’s best known franchise The Avengers, Square Enix is assembling its own major team for an upcoming project.
Via Twitter, Marvel announced Thursday it is partnering with developers from Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal on an upcoming Avengers game.

The teaser doesn’t hint at much, featuring short clips of characters like Thor and Iron Man. Partners Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal are best known for work on games such as the Deus Ex and Tomb Raider series. Via Kotaku, Square Enix’s statement for the game is similarly vague.
“The Avengers project is being designed for gamers worldwide and will be packed with all the characters, environments, and iconic moments that have thrilled longtime fans of the franchise. Featuring a completely original story, it will introduce a universe gamers can play in for years to come.” Square-Enix’s statement said.
The video is also likely to be the last hint we’ll see for a while on the game. As Kotaku notes, the partnership is part of a multi-game project and Square-Enix said more details will be released in 2018.
While Marvel has dabbled in the video game market in the past, the move to begin playing a larger role in the development process is a shift for the media company. Past titles have largely been in on mobile platforms, but considering the success of The Avengers film franchise, Marvel at least has something to bank on in its push for console gamers.
