In about an hour celebrities will start to walk the 2016 Emmys Red Carpet. While we wait, let's look back at one of the most prevalent red carpet trends of recent years, The Naked Dress.
Plunging necklines and thigh-high slashes on gowns have been red carpet staples for decades. However, these days, more and more celebrities with banging bodies are wearing naked dresses that show off not one or two of their assets but all of their bodies.
Now you might think that it was Rihanna who started the trend when her completely sheer, Swarovski crystal–studded Adam Selman gown grew gasps from the crowds at the 2014 CFDA Awards. But you'd be incorrect.
It arguably all began at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards when Rose McGowan showed up on the arm of Marilyn Manson wearing a sheer backless dress with nothing but a black thong underneath.
Then who can forget the 2001 Grammy Awards when Jennifer Lopez stunned the world in a plunging, bright green Versace dress?
They were the trail blazers. Kim Kardashian, Beyoncé, Irina Shayk and Gigi Hadid were merely following suit.
