'Red Dead Redemption 2' Companion App for iOS, Android Launching Alongside Game
Developer Rockstar Games has revealed that it will launch an official companion app for “Red Dead Redemption 2.” The app will be available this Friday to coincide with the launch of the game itself and it will be compatible with Android and iOS devices.
“The Red Dead Redemption 2 Companion App connects directly with your PlayStation 4 or Xbox One as you play, delivering real-time interactive information to your smart device,” Rockstar said on its website. “Available for download on October 26th on both iOS and Android, you can pan and zoom the map, set waypoints or mark areas of interest with a tap on your screen, aiding your exploration and discovery throughout the expansive world of ‘Red Dead Redemption 2.’”
The best thing about the Red Dead Redemption 2 Companion App is that users can have a separate device functioning as a map, allowing them to set waypoints without fiddling with the game itself. The app is also able to show players Arthur Morgan’s core information and stats in real-time. This also means that players can completely disable the in-game HUD from their televisions if they want, which should provide them with a more immersive gaming experience.
That’s not all. The Red Dead Redemption 2 Companion App also includes Arthur’s in-game journal, which should provide players more insight on what is going on in the character’s mind. The journal can be viewed much like an e-book on a tablet or a smartphone, allowing users to flip through pages on the touchscreen. It remains unclear if the journal will also be available in-game. But one thing is for sure, it seems like it’s a lot more convenient to read the journal on a smartphone or a tablet complete with a page-flipping experience, according to Game Rant.
The companion app also includes Rockstar Game’s Social Club, which provides players with stat tracking. Players will also have access to the “Red Dead Redemption 2” full digital game manual in the app itself. Finally, the app will allow players to download the optional digital version of the “Red Dead Redemption 2” Complete Official Guid from Piggyback.
The companion app for “Red Dead Redemption 2” will be available to download for free starting this Friday, Oct. 26 — the same date the game is arriving on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. No information was given about the download size of the app, but it’s certain that it won’t be as huge as the game’s installation size or the day one patch.
