Redskins RB Chris Thompson Out For Season With Fibula, Leg Injury Update
Washington Redskins running back Chris Thompson was carted off the field after he sustained a leg injury in the third quarter of Sunday’s 34-31 loss to the New Orleans Saints at the Superdome. The Redskins said Thompson suffered a fractured fibula, which will require surgery. He was ruled out for the remainder of the season, according to the team's website.
Thompson, who had been in motion trying to get a block for quarterback Kirk Cousins, suffered the fractured fibula when defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins rolled on top of him. After the hit, officials placed Thompson’s leg in an air cast before he was transported off the field in an injury cart. He had 4 carries, for 17 yards during the game.
Cousins also got hurt on the play but returned to the game after he was evaluated. He then set the Redskins up for a touchdown on a 40-yard scoring pass to Ryan Grant.
Thompson’s injury comes after running back Rob Kelley was ruled out for the season due to an ankle injury. The Redskins now have just two active running backs on their roster including rookie Samaje Perine and Byron Marshall.
