KEY POINTS

  • Many people are having problems when it comes to getting rid of visceral fat
  • A study showed that one certain mixture could help get rid of this fat
  • The mixture makes use of apple cider vinegar

The main problem with visceral fat is you never know how much of it is stored in your abdominal cavity. While it is also known as belly fat, it is tucked within the abdominal cavity, which is why it is difficult to determine the amount you have.

Two signs that you may be carrying too much visceral fat is having a large waist and a protruding belly. Having too much visceral fat can lead to serious health conditions like heart disease, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and some types of cancers.

A Healthy Drink

If you believe you have an excessive amount of visceral fat, reducing it should be foremost in your mind. There are many ways of doing this, and having this healthy drink regularly can help you achieve such a goal. A small amount of apple cider vinegar, about 15 to 30 ml mixed in a glass of water, can do wonders in your aim of reducing visceral fat.

For thousands of years, vinegar has been used in treating a host of health issues. In the case of visceral fat, vinegar contains acetic acid, which can be used to overwhelm body fat. It does this through inhibition of lipogenesis or fat storage.

The ability of some enzymes to produce fatty acids in your body can be interrupted by acetic acid. Vinegar functions as an intermediary that can control the chemical processes that generate fat.

Promising Results

Scientists in Japan have studied how vinegar can help in eliminating visceral fat. Researchers examined how vinegar intake could help lower body weight and fat mass. They also analyzed serum triglyceride levels and how apple cider vinegar could help in lowering or normalizing it. With 155 obese volunteers, researchers studied their vinegar consumption and how it made a difference after a treatment period of 12 weeks.

Scientists divided the volunteers into several groups. Some groups were asked to drink 500ml beverage containing approximately 750mg to 1500mg of apple cider vinegar. This type of vinegar was chosen because it is more palatable compared to other kinds. Other groups were asked to drink the same amount of beverage containing 0mg placebo.

At the end of the study period, volunteers that drank low and high doses of apple cider vinegar-laced drinks started showing positive results. With just four weeks into the period, those who drank vinegar-laced beverages saw their weight, BMI, and fat percentages decrease compared to the group that had placebo-laced drinks.

Aside from reducing body weight, a host of health benefits were also discovered by researchers during the study. Scientists found that the group of volunteers who drank low and high apple cider vinegar doses had their visceral fat considerably reduced.

Their visceral fat reduction also made a positive effect on other metabolic risk factors, such as impaired glucose tolerance and hypertension. Moreover, researchers found that these groups’ triglyceride levels were also lowered, thereby reducing their risk of developing various types of cardiovascular diseases.
