Release Dates For 'Top Gun: Maverick,' 'A Quiet Place: Part II' Moved

Paramount Pictures has moved the release dates of two highly-anticipated moves to 2021 due to the ongoing pandemic caused by COVID-19.

“Top Gun: Maverick,” which was previously set for a June 24 opening, was moved to December 23 in April. At the same time, “A Quiet Place: Part II” was also shifted for a September 4 premiere.

For the second time this year, Paramount has decided to once again push both movies to a later date. The Tom Cruise-starred flick will now have an April 23, 2021 schedule, while the sequel to the April 2018 horror film directed by John Krasinski has been set for July 21, 2021, according to IGN.

“We truly believe that there is no movie-viewing experience like the one enjoyed in theatres. We are committed to the theatrical experience and our exhibition partners, and want to stress that we are confident that, when the time comes, audiences everywhere will once again enjoy the singular joy of seeing Paramount films on the big screen,” said Paramount President of Domestic Distribution Chris Aronson and International Theatrical Distribution President Mark Viane in a joint statement, the outlet added.

The surge in COVID-19 cases in America also prompted Disney to make some changes to the release of its new “Avatar” and “Star Wars” movies. Variety reported that between 2022 and 2028, Disney is planning to schedule a new “Star Wars” adventure every other year: the first will be on December 22, 2023, while the remaining two are set for a December 19, 2025 and December 17, 2027 premiere, respectively.

James Cameron's long-awaited “Avatar” sequel meanwhile will hit theatres on December 16, 2022. It will be followed by three more movies in the same month in 2024, 2026 and 2028.

Another movie that has been canceled is the sequel to “Spider-Man: Far From Home.” According to CNBC, Sony Pictures announced Thursday, July 23, that Tom Holland's fictional character will swing its way on December 17, 2021. It was also the third time the movie was rescheduled as it first saw a change on its premiere on July 16, 2021. However, Sony decided to move it again in April due to “production shutdown” and marked Spider-Man's return on November 5, 2021.
