A woman, who has been arrested in connection with the murder of her imam husband, has admitted to killing the victim by castrating him, police said.
The police found the body of 57-year-old Wakeel Ahmed in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on Friday. Ahmed's second wife, Hazra who is identified only by her first name, was arrested a day later, India Today reported. The victim served as an imam at a mosque in Bhora Khurd village, located in the Muzaffarnagar district of the state, the same media report added.
An investigation revealed that the couple had disagreements regarding Ahmed's decision to marry a third time. Hazra told the detectives that she had earlier pleaded with her husband not to remarry but he did not budge on his decision.
“The woman has confessed to her crime. Her husband wished to marry yet again and she wanted to prevent him. Their argument turned into a major scuffle,” Sharad Chand Sharma, Deputy Superintendent of Police, said, as reported by local news outlet Sambad English.
Ahmed's first wife, who used to live in the same house along with the couple, was away at the time of the incident.
The police said the attack happened at night while Ahmed was asleep. Hazra admitted that she pounced on the victim and attacked him with a sharp-edged kitchen knife. Hazra said she then castrated Ahmed and the victim bled to death, India.com reported.
The police have arrested Hazra on charges of murder and she has been sent to jail. The victim's body has been sent for an autopsy and the investigation is underway, police said.
Last week, a woman and her lover were arrested from the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh for murdering the woman's husband. The police arrested the woman, identified as Tabassum, and her lover, Irfan, for reportedly killing the woman's husband, Aamir. The investigation revealed that before the alleged murder, Tabassum had switched Aamir's asthma medicine, which had caused him to lose consciousness. Irfan then reportedly took Tabassum's help to tie up the victim and attacked him with a hammer until he died. The investigators also found evidence from Tabassum's search history that she had reportedly googled ways to commit the crime.
