Remy Ma called in to Hot 97 Monday night to confirm that she is not dead and put and end to a Twitter death hoax that had the hip hop community afraid they'd heard the last of the legendary rapper.

Twitter exploded on Monday with death rumors that the Grammy-nominated rapper was stabbed to death in her prison cell after her Wikipedia page was amended to say that she died on July 15, 2012.

But it turns out that Remy Ma, one of the most beloved female hip-hop artists of all time, was simply the latest victim of an online death hoax. The rumors were put to dead for good Monday night when she called in to Funkmaster Flex's radio show on New York's Hot 97 to debunk the erroneous reports of her early demise

She made the call from the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women in Westchester County, N.Y., where she is serving a lengthy sentence after being convicted in 2008 of assault, illegal weapon possession and attempted coercion in connection with a 2007 shooting.

Flex started the interview by asking Remy Ma how she felt, to which she responded jovially, telling him, I'm goofy. I'm actually great, adding that it had been like, half a decade since the two of them had spoken.

He then cut to the chase and asked her about the death rumors, to which she gave a lengthy reply:

I'm good. I heard I was dead and all types of craziness. I don't know -- people are crazy I was, like, trending worldwide, maybe we should let this thing rock for a little minute. But, um, I dunno, people are crazy. They have nothing to do with their lives sometimes so they just say things and then it gets out of control and other people say it and I don't know. I just know they was looking for me crazy all throughout the prison. I was happy I wasn't out of pocket.

She also confirmed that she will be getting out of prison in about 22 1/2 months, significantly earlier than her maximum release date of March 23, 2016.

It's been a little minute, she added. It's almost over. I'm gonna be back like I never left.

Remy Ma opened up even further with old friend Funkmaster Flex, telling him about a day in the life of Remy Ma behind bars in prison:

About like 7 o'clock I get up, sometimes about 7:20ish, take a shower, she said. I get up around 7, I go to programs, they got me in a program now that prepares you to go home, because I'm about to go home.

And Funkmaster Flex took it all in, then told Remy Ma how glad he is that she is still alive and well:

It's beautiful to know that you're alright and you're safe and you're healthy and you're gonna be out in 22 months, he told her. It's a beautiful thing.

Remy Ma added that she would be calling back in to Hot 97 on Tuesday morning in order to further discuss the death hoax, her release date from prison and more.

The call-in put a final end to the persistent online rumors that Remy Ma had died, but it came on the heels of a number of other occurrences that had already begun to put an end to the false conspiracy theory.

First, her Wikipedia was changed back to reflect the fact that she did not actually pass away on Sunday.

And the rumor was essentially put to bed Monday evening when Remy Ma's husband, rapper Papoose, took to Twitter Monday evening to let her fans know that it was all a mix-up and that she was still alive:

Just left my wife on the visit 2day @ 330 she was and still is fine yall haters need 2 get a life @freeremyma, Papoose tweeted from his Blackberry.

He followed that tweet up shortly thereafter with one taking Google to task for allegedly being a source of the erroneous information about Remy Ma's death:

Google need 2 step they s**t up and stop pushing fake stories @freeremyma, he tweeted.

The Remy Ma death hoax is certainly not the first one to hit Twitter in recent years, as Eddie Murphy, Kanye West, Jeff Goldblum, Britney Spears, Morgan Freeman, Justin Bieber, Barack Obama, Kim Jong-Un, Phil Collins, Gotye, Pitbull, Usher, Robin Williams, Keke Palmer, Patrick Dempsey, Chingy, Paul McCartney, Rowan Atkinson, Madonna, Soulja Boy, Adele, Demi Moore, Jon Bon Jovi, Cher, Tony Danza, Jackie Chan, Hugh Hefner, Mick Jagger, and numerous other celebrities have found themselves at the mercy of Internet pranksters who claimed that they were dead on Twitter, usually by getting a tweet starting with R.I.P. or RIP and a celeb's name to go viral.

Remy Ma -- birth name Reminisce Smith -- rose to prominence as a member of Fat Joe's rap group, Terror Squad. She appeared on the squad's mega-hit track Lean Back, and had success as a solo artist as well.
