Is Renee Zellweger Anorexic? Actress Address Rumors Plus Actresses Who Suffered From Anorexia [PHOTOS]
After being in the headlines for her weight as often as for her movie roles, Renee Zellweger has commented about rumors that she is anorexic. The 5-foot-4 actress sparked speculation for years and added to the buzzing when she admitted to going on an “ice” diet in the past. She claimed the ice helped her feel full and kept her from overeating.
But Zellweger now says she's certainly not starving herself. "When you read reports that you are starving yourself or that you are anorexic, it's very unfair and disappointing," Britain’s Daily Express quotes her as saying. "It's not very pleasant to read reports which say you've gone too far or this or that." The actress says she simply enjoys working out. "I have a lifestyle that involves keeping my sanity by going to the gym."
Zellweger certainly is not the first actress in Hollywood thought to be battling anorexia. Some actually have dealt with the eating disorder and since gotten healthier.
Keira Knightley
Keira Knightley’s thin figure has raised concerns that she is anorexic, which she addressed last year in Allure magazine, saying the rumors hit her “pretty hard.”
“Because you go, oh, maybe that’s right! I knew I wasn’t anorexic, but maybe my body is somehow not right,” she said. “When you're going through a period where you're really getting a lot of criticism, you go, maybe all this is right!”
Mary-Kate Olsen
Mary-Kate Olsen sought treatment for the dangerous eating disorder in 2004. She was diagnosed shortly after her 18th birthday. "This is a challenge that Mary-Kate has made a decision to face," her rep said at the time. "This is a challenge she will meet."
Portia De Rossi
The wife of comedian Ellen DeGeneres admitted in her 2010 memoir that she suffered from anorexia, often eating only 300 calories a day. She once weighed only 82 pounds. "It wasn't that I was proud of it, but it was certainly a recognition for my self-control," she said.
Nicole Richie
Nicole Richie’s rail-thin figure was discussed in the media during 2005 and 2006, and the socialite admitted that there was reason to be concerned. “I know I'm too thin right now, so I wouldn't want any young girl looking at me and say, 'That's what I want to look like,'” Richie told Vanity Fair in 2006. "I do know that they will, which is another reason I really do need to do something about it. I'm not happy with the way I look right now." She blamed the dramatic weight loss in part on her split with then-fiance Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein.
