Rennes' Eduardo Camavinga Has No Plans Of Moving Out Of Roazhon Park
KEY POINTS
- Camavinga is staying to further develop his skills with Stade Rennais F.C.
- Camavinga's possible move to Real Madrid will have to wait
- Rennes is not interested in dealing away the 17-year-old player
Rennes' Eduardo Camavinga finally put all speculations of a move out of Roazhon Park to rest. The 17-year-old insisted that he will stay on with Stade Rennais F.C. for the coming season, quashing talks of him potentially moving to Real Madrid.
Camavinga confirmed in an interview with broadcaster Telefoot that he is staying with Rennes when asked about what the future holds for him. Rennes qualified for the Champions League next season, one of the factors that convinced him to stay on in Ligue 1.
"I still have two years to run on my contract, and that's why I will be staying with Rennes this season," Camavinga said. "Interest from other clubs isn't what made me change my mind about leaving. It's football. There are always things said which are true and others which are not true."
Camavinga, who is under contract until 2022, broke into the football scene during the 2018-19 season. He has made seven appearances for Rennes toward the backend of their campaign. Last season, he played in 36 matches, scoring a goal and issuing two assists.
Camavinga has been linked to several moves out of Rennes, with Real Madrid believed to be seriously interested in him. While this could still happen, it does not have to be immediate. Former Rennes player Mario Melchiot feels he should consider the move to Los Blancos but only when he believes the time is right.
"If you feel like it isn’t the right move, then stay where you are. I think you should always consider your development. The team you go to should make you better and you should make the team better," Melchiot said to Goal.
Rennes sporting director Florian Maurice previously made it clear that they are not interested in dealing away Camavinga for now. They want to keep the 17-year-old in the fold and continue his development.
"It is worth pointing out that the player has the ambition and maybe the desire to go elsewhere," Maurice said. "I would listen to him, but at the moment he has a Rennes contract and we will then see how the transfer window is working."
