Republican Congressman Suing Nancy Pelosi Over Mask Mandate Tests Positive For COVID
Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., who is suing Nancy Pelosi after being fined for violating the House mask mandate in May, tested positive for COVID-19.
Norman recently took Twitter to reveal he was experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.
“After experiencing minor symptoms this morning, I sought a covid-19 test and was just informed the test results were positive,” Norman wrote.
“Thankfully, I have been fully vaccinated, and my symptoms remain mild. To every extent possible, I will continue my work virtually while in quarantine for the next ten (10) days.”
Dr. Anthony Fauci previously revealed that receiving the COVID-19 vaccine could reduce the intensity of an individual’s symptoms.
“If you do get infected, the likelihood of your getting a severe outcome of the infection is very low,” he said in an appearance on CBS News' “Face the Nation.”
“It is much more likely that you will be either without symptoms or minimally symptomatic. So the vaccine is doing what you want it to do. It’s protecting people from getting sick.”
Norman’s positive COVID-19 diagnosis comes one week after he joined an anti-mask requirement lawsuit with Republican Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Thomas Massie.
Last month, a lawsuit was filed against Pelosi and two House administrators after Greene and Massie received a $500 fine for not wearing masks to protest the House mask requirement.
After receiving the same penalty, Norman joined the lawsuit in which the Republicans claimed the fine was unconstitutional.
Norman, Greene, and Massie alleged the fine violates the 27th Amendment, which prohibits any law that can decrease or increase the salaries of Congress until after the election of Representatives.
Congress' Office of the Attending Physician last week reinstated the mask mandate for both vaccinated and unvaccinated members in the House amid concerns of the more transmissible Delta variant. However, the requirement did not apply to members in the Senate.
