KEY POINTS
- HMD Global will release two new Nokia feature phones soon, a report says
- These are revived versions of the Nokia 6300 and Nokia 8000
- Both devices will offer support for 4G
Nokia licensee HMD Global is planning on bringing back two classic Nokia mobile phones, a report reveals.
HMD Global, the company behind Nokia’s current mobile phone launches, will revive two devices from years past, the Nokia 6300 and Nokia 8000, German outlet WinFuture reported.
The two devices haven’t been officially announced yet, but they were already spotted listed alongside other mobile phones on the website of Scandinavian telecom company Telia. The website has since been updated to remove the two devices from the list.
Nevertheless, eagle-eyed Nokia fans such as NokiaMob have captured screenshots and shared it on the internet.
Features
According to the listing, the two devices will be able to connect to the internet via 4G networks. This sort of turns the classic feature phones into “smart feature phones” – feature phones that can connect to the internet and also have apps installed.
This is in line with how HMD Global resurrects older Nokia phones such as the Nokia 3310 3G and Nokia 8110 4G, also known as the banana phone.
Other features remain unknown at the moment. It’s likely that HMD Global will strive to retain the devices’ classic look to maintain their appeal. The company did that with the Nokia 3310 and 5310, and it’s possible that it will go the same route this time around.
As of now, however, it also remains to be seen which 6300 series and 8000 series models the new mobile phones will be based on. Regardless, they might run on Kai OS or a revamped Series30+ version, NokiaMob speculated.
Possible basis
The Nokia 6300 might be based on the Nokia 6300 released in 2007. The original device featured a simple look characterized by a combination of plastic and stainless steel. It had a 2MP camera, was very comfortable to hold and easily fit in a pocket.
The Nokia 8000, on the other hand, might be a follow-up to the Nokia 8xxx series models. It’s unclear which exact model it will be based on, but one can easily expect this handset to be a premium device with stainless steel housings and slide covers, like the ones Nokia released many years ago.
