A few months before Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s May wedding, Russell Brand created an online petition to get them a wedding gift. He had a very specific one in mind, though.

The “Ballers” actor wanted people to sign the document to help him give the royal couple the gift of “love for the homeless.” The goal of the change.org petition’s to help get a new office building for SHOC (Slough Homeless Our Concern), a homeless assistance facility Brand has been involved with for a while now.

“SHOC themselves are now being made homeless by Slough council,” he wrote. “Meaning the vulnerable clients that depend on them will be in even more trouble. But we can fight back on their behalf with the Recovery Movement.”

He continued: “As a wedding present for Harry and Meghan and as a rebuke to the low frequency conduct of Councillor Dudley and any who would further victimise the vulnerable, we are asking that Slough Council agree to a ‘change of use’ for a building in the town that will enable SHOC to have a new home.”

Brand felt getting people to electronically sign this page would show that this would be a great gift for Markle and Prince Harry, and he hoped to send the petition over to Slough Council and its leader, James Swindlehurst, and that they’d make the necessary changes for SHOC to get the new building.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s royal wedding has come and gone, but the signatures are still coming. As of Tuesday, there were 157,726 signatures on the petition and counting.
