Singer Rihanna, a close friend of Beyonce and Jay-Z, has confirmed via Twitter that one of the most powerful couples in hip hop has indeed given birth to a baby girl.

Welcome to the world princess Carter! Love Aunty Rih, the singer tweeted early Sunday morning.

Reports are that Beyonce gave birth to a daughter on Saturday at the Lenox Hill hospital in New York.

E! Online has reported that sources have said that the baby girl's name is Blue Ivy Carter.

Beyonce announced her pregnancy last August at the MTV Video Music Award. She married Jay-Z in 2008 after years of dating.

Jersey Shore pint-sized star Nicole Snooki Polizzi has congratulated Beyonce on the baby's birth.
