‘The Rise Of Skywalker’ Actress Teases Plenty Of Mysteries Will Remain As Credits Roll
Longtime “Star Wars” fans have been waiting years for more content, yet Disney’s newest trilogy has only brought on a bevy of backlash. While standalone experiences, such as “The Mandalorian” and “Rogue One,” have garnered ample amount of praise, newer films, most notably “The Last Jedi,” haven't thrilled the entire “Star Wars” community.
With “The Rise of Skywalker,” director J.J. Abrams has plans of amending said issues. Yet, as reported by Metro.co.uk, newly-added “Episode IX” actress Naomi Ackie highlights how its final moments might not answer all of the question fans have been mulling over. The actress explained in detail at the BIFA nominations announcement that, though this may be the end of the Skywalker era, “The story continues,” she said.
Disney has long tried to keep a tight lid on leaks, as witnessed over the years with its highly secretive Marvel IP, yet as it so happens “The Rise of Skywalker” spoilers have become rampant on Reddit. A culture of “Episode 9” fan theories has arisen in the anticipation for the upcoming movie around said leaks. Ackie warns of this very dilemma, seeing that avid fans with expectations may not get what they want within “The Rise of Skywalker” ending.
She relates, “And there are some people that leave it that might feel like they’ve got everything they wanted but there might still be more questions, and that’s the whole point.”
Co-star Daisy Ridley has teased that this iteration of “Star Wars” will be far different from its predecessors. In an Entertainment Weekly interview, Ridley described “Episode 9” in four revealing words: “Definitely dark…There are bits that are genuinely scary…And sad…And joyful.”
It’s unclear exactly what will “The Rise of Skywalker” be about, though plenty of “Episode 9” leaks point to an epic final battle, while others highlight the return of Midichlorians. Whatever Abrams has in store, fan service will be at the forefront of his agenda.
As he explained to EW: “This is about bringing this thing to a close in a way that is emotional and meaningful and also satisfying in terms of actually answering [as many] questions as possible.”
While it may not line up exactly with Ackie’s comments, Abrams’ “The Rise of Skywalker” ending will have to round out the entire saga in a way that’s meaningful, everlasting, and honest to the “Star Wars” lore.
“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” lands in cinemas on Dec. 20.
