Rivian Recall 2022: R1T Electric Pickups Need New Seats Over Child Safety Risk

In its first-ever recall, Rivian (RIV) is issuing a repair for 502 of its fully electric R1T pickup trucks over a child safety risk.

The recall affects about 10% of its total vehicle production to date, according to CNBC.

The EV maker recalled the trucks because the first passenger seat may be improperly calibrated, meaning that when a child is seated in the front seat, they may be at risk of injury because the passenger airbag may deploy during a crash due to it not being deactivated.

To repair the airbag issue, Rivian Service Centers will replace the front passenger seat at no charge to affected truck owners.

Owners will receive notification of the recall beginning on July 1.
