A 45-year-old woman was found dead with her feet chopped off in a field in the Rajsamand district of Rajasthan, India. The police said the deceased woman was attacked by a robber, who cut her feet off and stole the silver anklets she was wearing at the time.

The victim, identified as Kankubai, was on her way to meet her husband Monday morning when the murder took place. She had left her home with food for her husband and made her way towards the field in which he was working, according to India Today. Kankubai was murdered before she could make it to the field.

Her family raised the alarm after Kankubai’s husband returned home and asked his children where their mother was. They told him she had left for the field to bring him his food earlier that morning.

Relatives and residents began searching the area for Kankubai but did not find her. A missing report was filed at Charbhuja police station and Kankubai’s body was found with her feet hacked off. The accused robber also attacked her on her neck, causing her untimely death.

The murder suspect has been identified and detained.

A few weeks prior to Kankubai’s death, a similar incident took place in Jaipur, Rajasthan, where the body of a 55-year-old woman was found with her feet severed. The murdered woman was identified as Geeta Devi, found in a pool of blood after the attack, according to the Times Of India.

Devi had taken cattle out for grazing around 10 a.m. on Oct. 19 to the same field in which she worked for 40 years. A few hours later, a villager passing through the field noticed blood and found Devi's corpse in the field.

Wounds were found on Devi’s throat and her silver ornaments were missing. The police said they believe the assailants used a sharp-edged object, possibly an ax, to chop her feet off and steal her anklets.

The victim’s family accused the police of not giving out the full picture of the crime, according to India Today. Devi's brother-in-law, Radhesyam Sharma said the police told the media that Devi's body had been cut at three places, but the truth was it was cut at 15 places.

Details about the assailants were not reported.
