KEY POINTS

  • Hollywood A-listers like Robert De Niro, Anne Hathaway, and Oscar Isaac have joined James Gray's upcoming movie "Armageddon Time"
  • The movie is a semi-autobiographical film that recounts Gray’s upbringing in the New York borough of Queens
  • It is the second time for De Niro and Hathaway to be working together after 2015's "The Intern"

Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro are the latest A-list actors to join James Gray’s upcoming movie “Armageddon Time.” The film stars Cate Blanchett in the lead role.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Hathaway and De Niro will be collaborating for the first time with the “Ad Astra” helmer. Apart from De Niro and Hathaway, Oscar Issac has joined the project.

The movie is a semi-autobiographical film that recounts Gray’s upbringing in the New York borough of Queens.

The expectation for Gray’s upcoming film is high, especially after the success of “Ad Astra.” The movie tells the story of an astronaut named Roy McBride (played by Brad Pitt) who undertakes a mission to uncover the truth about his missing father and his failed expedition that 30 years later threatens the universe.

The film had its premiere at the Venice Film Festival in 2019. It received universal acclaim and was nominated for an Academy Award. The film currently holds a score of 84% on review site Rotten Tomatoes.

The project will surely be very important for Hathaway. The actress has not been able to provide a solid blockbuster in recent years. Movies like “Hustle,” “Serenity,” and “The Last Thing He Wanted” turned out to be massive failures.

The “Intern” star will be next seen in Robert Zemeckis’ film “The Witches.” The movie, based on the novel of the same name, chronicles the journey of a 7-year-old boy who has a run-in with real-life witches. The cast includes Octavia Spencer, Stanley Tucci, and Chris Rock in pivotal roles.

On the other hand, Blanchett continues her golden run. She is considered to be one of the greatest actors of all time as she has given many iconic performances. She started her career on a TV show called “Heartland” in 1994 and the rest was history after that. Her moment of glory came in 1999 when she portrayed the character of Queen Elizabeth I in Shekhar Kapur’s “Elizabeth.”

Apart from receiving two Oscars, Blanchett has three Golden Globes, three BAFTAs, and three Critics’ Choice Awards.
