Robert Downey Jr. is one of the biggest actors in Hollywood who is mostly known for his role as Tony Stark in Marvel Studios’ “Iron Man” and “Avengers” films, which earned him over $400 million. He recently became controversial after unfollowing his Marvel co-stars on Instagram.

The Marvel actor recently caused a stir among his fans on social media after his verified Instagram account was found to no longer be following his MCU co-stars. But since the Hollywood star still follows other MCU actors through his Twitter account, many believe that the controversial move was done to keep his Instagram as a medium to promote his passions, including his FootPrint Coalition, according to CNN.

Downey's career with Marvel shot his net worth to an estimated $300 million, as per Celebrity Net Worth. The first “Iron Man” film in 2008 paved the way for Downey’s return to stardom with a salary of $500,000. With the success of the first MCU film, the sequel, “Iron Man 2,” made even more profit and earned Downey $10 million.

The 2012 movie “The Avengers” was Downey’s third time playing the billionaire entrepreneur. He was given a paycheck of $10 million for the project, but the back-end deals brought his total income to $50 million, according to Comic Book Resources.

The third movie in the “Iron Man” franchise was released in 2013, and it earned Downey another $10 million. The back-end deals, however, brought his total income to $50 million. The second movie in the “Avengers” series, “Avengers: Age Of Ultron,” paid Downey between $50 million and $80 million despite being the lowest-grossing film of the franchise, the outlet said.

Downey earned a total of nearly $64 million for “Captain America: Civil War” and between $10 million to $15 million for his short role as Tony Stark in “Spider-Man: Homecoming.” For “Avengers: Infinity War,” the first film in the two-part finale of the MCU’s first phase, the actor earned at least $75 million. And the film where Downey played the role of the genius businessman for the last time, “Avengers: Endgame,” earned him another $75 million, according to IGN, bringing his Marvel movies earnings to around $400 million.

Salaries of actors who are part of the MCU are primarily based on the length of time they have been with the franchise. Stars like Downey, Chris Evans, who played Steve Rogers in “Captain America: The First Avenger,” and Chris Hemsworth, who starred as the god of thunder in the “Thor” films, can get between $15 million and $20 million from a single movie. On the other hand, actors playing secondary heroes, such as Paul Rudd, earn about $8 million per film, according to Forbes.
