Robert Pattinson, who is set to portray the iconic character of Batman in the upcoming Matt Reeves movie, has opined that the caped crusader is not a “superhero.”

While appearing on the “Today” show, the 33-year-old actor had something interesting to say about the comic book character. The actor was discussing how the “Twilight” franchise made him a household name when the anchor asked him about the upcoming superhero movie, “The Batman.”

That is when the “Lighthouse” star corrected the anchor and shared that the Dark Knight is not really a superhero because he does not have any “magical” powers. Pattinson believes that a character needs to have some sort of magical powers to be called a “superhero” or else it “doesn’t” count.

“Batman’s not a superhero. It is weird, I always balk at it. I am like, ‘It doesn’t count, you need to have, like, magical powers to be a superhero,” Pattinson said.

There have been many debates over the years on whether the World’s Greatest Detective can actually be labeled a superhero, or if he falls under the super part of the superhero category. Though there is no doubt that he does wear a cape and saves the city of Gotham from evil guys, many comic fans still believe that he does not possess any kind of special powers like Superman or The Flash.

In October, the “High Life” star suggested something similar in an interview with The New York Times. At that time, Pattinson revealed that Batman is “not a golden body” and described him as a “complicated character.”

“Batman’s not a hero, though. He is a complicated character. I do not think I could ever play a real hero,” Pattinson explained.

Pattinson will be donning the cape in Matt Reeves’ upcoming project “The Batman.” Ben Affleck was the last actor to wear the iconic Batsuit for the big screen in 2016’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice” and 2017’s “Justice League.”

Zoe Kravitz will be portraying the character of Catwoman while it was recently confirmed that Andy Serkis will be playing Alfred Pennyworth in the highly-anticipated movie. On the other hand, Paul Dano is all set to become The Riddler.

The first in the trilogy, “The Batman” is scheduled to hit cinemas on June 25, 2021.
