Robert Pattinson has recalled the moment he learned that he got the lead role of “Batman.”

In an interview with Total Film, the “Twilight” star opened up about how he learned that he was selected as the next “Batman.” Pattinson described the moment as “insane” and “very, very intense weekend.”

Pattinson got the news on his first day of filming “Tenet,” which was directed by Christopher Nolan, who also helmed the "Dark Knight" trilogy. Nolan’s three “Batman” movies with Christian Bale had a huge hits. It redeemed the franchise after George Clooney’s version in 1997.

“That was a crazy way to start Chris’ film,” Pattinson said. “I think I was doing the screen test, as well, on the Saturday before I started.”

After shooting Nolan’s “Tenet,” Pattinson went on and started filming “The Batman.” Unfortunately, the production was forced to halt due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We’d really gotten into a really good rhythm as well, so it’s kind of strange to be pausing. But, again, it’s a hard movie. I mean, obviously it’s ‘Batman’, so it’s kind of nice,” he added.

Pattinson doesn’t consider the time off the worst thing in the world. However, he is hoping that things will get better sooner than later.

Pattinson received an intense backlash from netizens recently for announcing that he stopped working out amid the lockdown. Many were dismayed because they wanted to see a fit and muscular actor for the superhero role.

“I hope this is a joke. I get that not everyone is peak physical levels but Batman is supposed to be. He’s supposed to be super strong and able to beat the [expletive] out of people because he incessantly works out. Working out and money are his only 2 superpowers,” @BoofieBois wrote.

“If this is true I’m not thrilled to hear it, Batman is the epitome of peak physical fitness so anyone who has the role needs to respect that. You know what you’re getting yourself into when you go for the part of Batman,” @VillainsOfDC_ opined.

Meanwhile, Nolan and Bale were offered a fourth “Batman” movie. However, the director only wanted a trilogy. So, when Bale was offered another film, he turned it down.

“We have to stick to Chris’ dream, which was always to, hopefully, do a trilogy. Let’s not stretch too far and become overindulgent and go for a fourth,” Bale explained.
