Rodtang Jitmuangnon Slated For Quick Turnaround In ONE Championship's U.S. Debut

Much like its maiden offering on Amazon Prime Video back in August, ONE Championship is expected to bring out the biggest names for its highly-anticipated debut on United States soil on May 5th.

Demonstrating the importance of the historic event—numbered ONE Fight Night 10—is the fight card's headliner for the evening as hometown favorite Demetrious Johnson will defend his ONE flyweight championship against Brazilian arch-nemesis Adriano Moraes in the final chapter of their grueling rivalry.

Several matchups have been confirmed to be part of the occasion a few days ago, and another combat sports luminary has been added to the growing bout lineup.

Rodtang Jitmuangnon, the reigning ONE flyweight Muay Thai champion, is set to defend his gold-plated strap against Mexico's Edgar Tabares on the undercard.

The American audience had their first glimpse of Rodtang, who is universally regarded as the best pound-for-pound Muay Thai fighter in the world today, at ONE on TNT I in April 2021 when he figured in a three-round war of attrition versus Australian spitfire Danial Williams and won by way of clear-cut unanimous decision.

Operating behind the puncher's style known as "Muay Mat," Rodtang holds victories over the likes of Sergio Wielzen, Hakim Hamech, Jonathan Haggerty, Petchdam Petchyindee, and Joseph Lasiri.

In his most recent outing, he handed Jiduo Yibu a demoralizing defeat, battering the Chinese striker with a wide array of harrowing blows over the course of three rounds in their catchweight contest at ONE Fight Night 6 last January.

American fans will now get to see Rodtang in the flesh as his next outing will mark his first stateside appearance.

Rodtang will likewise live up to his "Iron Man" moniker as his encounter with Tabares will come just six weeks after he challenges compatriot Superlek Kiatmoo9 for the ONE flyweight kickboxing title at ONE Fight Night 8 in Singapore on March 25 (March 24 in the United States).

If all goes according to Rodtang's plan, he could be making his walk to the Circle for his meeting with Tabares as a rare two-sport world champion.

Like Superlek, Rodtang's opponent on May 5 is no slouch as Tabares boasts a high-octane fighting style that could counteract the Thai's hard-hitting attacks.

Tabares, who once held the WBC Muay Thai international belt, will be looking to shock the world by pulling off the upset and adding Rodtang's ONE flyweight Muay Thai strap to his collection.

ONE Fight Night 10 is set to take place at 1stBank Center in Broomfield, Colorado.
