Roger Federer-Rafael Nadal Laver Cup Doubles Match: How, When And Where To Watch
KEY POINTS
- Roger Federer has been playing tennis for over two decades
- The Swiss Master has won 20 Grand Slam titles
- Federer spent 310 weeks as ATP World No. 1
Roger Federer will team up with Rafael Nadal for a doubles game in the Laver Cup 2022, which would be the "last match" of his active career.
Nadal said it would be his "honor and pleasure" to be alongside Federer during his final on-court appearance.
Federer, who spent 310 weeks as the ATP World No. 1 player, is set to bow out of the sport after being associated with it for over two decades. The 41-year-old player was the first man to reach 20 Grand Slam titles before Nadal and Novak Djokovic emulated the feat. However, Nadal now has 22 major titles to his name, one more than the Serbian player and two more than Federer.
No one other than Nadal will have a better view of Federer when the Swiss Master plays the final shots of his decorated career.
"Tomorrow [is] going [to] be a special thing. I think a very difficult, difficult one. [It is] going to be difficult to handle everything, especially for Roger, without a doubt. For me too. In the end, [he is] one of the most important players, if not the most important player in my tennis career, and [he is] leaving. This moment will be difficult. Of course, I am super excited and grateful to play with him," Nadal told reporters Thursday, according to ATP.
Nadal and Federer, who are a part of Team Europe, will take on Team World's Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe on Friday.
Laver Cup is a three-day event but Federer said he would compete in just one game. Italy's Matteo Berrettini will take his place for the rest of the competition. This is due to Federer's ongoing injury issues.
