Rolling Stone magazine prints correction on Justin Bieber abortion quote
Rolling Stone magazine printed a correction on a controversial Justin Bieber quote regarding abortion
Bieber opened up about heavy issues in the interview. No topic was off limits. Bieber answered questions regarding music, politics, sex and abortion.
Bieber took a strong stance on abortion saying, I really don't believe in abortion. It's like killing a baby?
The Rolling Stone reporter pressed him as to whether he would endorse abortion in cases of rape. Many entertainment news sources quoted Rolling Stone saying that Bieber's response was Um. Well, I think that's really sad, but everything happens for a reason. I guess I haven't been in that position, so I wouldn't be able to judge that.
Rollingstone.com printed a correction on its site stating: Due to an editing error, this story originally included an incomplete quote from Justin Bieber. The full quote, his response to whether abortions should be allowed in cases of rape, reads: Um. Well, I think that's really sad, but everything happens for a reason. I don't know how that would be a reason. I guess I haven't been in that position, so I wouldn't be able to judge that.
The one sentence that was missing from the original posts alters the meaning of what Bieber was saying. The initial quote made Bieber sound insensitive to rape, whereas the new clause just proves that Bieber, only 16 years old, doesn't have a fully-formed opinion yet.
The Canadian pop star also said he has no plans on becoming an American citizen.
You guys are evil, he joked. Canada's the best country in the world.
Bieber also took a stab at the American health care system.
We go to the doctor and we don't need to worry about paying him, but here, your whole life, you're broke because of medical bills, Bieber said. My bodyguard's baby was premature, and now he has to pay for it. In Canada, if your baby's premature, he stays in the hospital as long as he needs to, and then you go home.
Bieber was hush-hush about his alleged romance with 18-year-old Selena Gomez but Rolling Stone reports that when the interviewer caught sight of Bieber's laptop, there was an image of Bieber and Gomez against an orange sunset. Bieber was then quick to close the computer.
In his interview he also took a stance against loveless sex.
I don't think you should have sex with anyone unless you love them, he said. I think you should just wait for the person you're ... in love with.
The magazine hits newsstands Friday, Feb. 18.
