Rolls-Royce is going back to its roots with a custom-built car that only three lucky owners will have the opportunity to drive away in.

The car dubbed the Boat Tail comes with what is thought to be an estimated $25 million price tag, although Roll-Royce did not specify a number, only saying that three buyers commissioned the vehicles, with all of them wanting a nautical feel without revealing their identities, CNN reported.

As part of its Coachbuild program, Rolls-Royce will work with customers to design and build a car that is specifically tailored to the owner. Only one car will be produced every few years, Rolls-Royce executives said, but the cost of how much the entire development process from design to delivery was unclear at the time of writing.

“Rolls-Royce Coachbuild clients are intimately and personally involved at each step of the creative and engineering process," Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Muller-Otvos, said in a statement.

“We work in harmony with the client to gain complete fluency in the nuances of their character and personality. We carefully translate these qualities into the elements with which they wish to imbue their commission,” he added.

The Boat Tail, much like the name suggests, features a boat-like fantail and was inspired by the car owners’ private collection of a 1932 Rolls-Royce Boat Tail. The tail itself is 19 feet long and balanced by the iconic Rolls-Royce Pantheon grille and classic round headlamps.

The car also features luxury features such as linear wood grain, Caleidolegno veneer, and stainless steel to keep with the nautical styling. The exterior of the Boat Tail has been painted blue - the owner’s favorite color - also playing on a seaworthy feel.

“Boat Tail exists far beyond a mere means of transport. It is not just the method to reach a destination, but the destination itself,” Alex Innes, head of Rolls-Royce Coachbuild Design, said in a statement.

“It is an ambition realized with a remarkable cohort of women and men who empowered the marque to create a concept of extraordinary scope,” he said.

Rolls-Royce is not the only automaker with a custom car-building program. Porsche and Bentley also have coachbuilding units with their businesses for clients looking for personalized vehicles from the automakers.
