Roman Reigns Breaks Silence On Massive 'Last Man Standing' Fight Against Former Champion
KEY POINTS
- Roman Reigns defeated Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38
- With the win, Reigns unified the Universal and world title
- The two are once again going to face off later this year
Roman Reigns has finally broken the silence on his upcoming fight against Brock Lesnar.
The Tribal Chief became the undisputed WWE Universal Champion at WrestleMania 38 by defeating then-WWE champion Lesnar. Following that, Lesnar took some time off from WWE. Reigns faced off against RK-Bro member Riddle on the recent Friday Night SmackDown and successfully defended both his titles.
After the win over Riddle, Lesnar made a sensational comeback, his first appearance since WrestleMania, and took out The Bloodline with three F5s. Lesnar's return is believed to be a genuine surprise as no one from the WWE fraternity expected him to show up. Following that, the WWE officially announced Reigns was set to defend his title against Lesnar in a "Last Man Standing" match for SummerSlam 2022.
Reigns confirmed it Monday. The current WWE and Universal Champion seemed confident and ready to once again triumph over Lesnar.
"I've been standing as the ONLY one at the top of the mountain. On the Island of Relevancy. At the center of it all. One last ass-whooping for the beast. #WreckEveryoneAndLeave #SummerSlam," Reigns tweeted.
The Last Man Standing match at SummerSlam will mark the third meeting between Lesnar and Reigns since last October's Crown Jewel. Reigns defeated Lesnar to retain his Universal Title at Crown Jewel and he then unified the titles at WrestleMania 38.
The 2022 WWE SummerSlam Premium live event is scheduled to take place on July 30 at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.
The Reigns vs. Lesnar fight was not the original plan for the upcoming SummerSlam event. WWE had initially planned to add Randy Orton as Reigns' opponent. However, Orton is dealing with an injury. It was recently reported that he could undergo surgery soon and may not fight again this year.
