Ronda Rousey Update: UFC Star Lands Acting Role With Fighting Future Unknown
With an uncertain future in MMA, Ronda Rousey is continuing to pursue opportunities outside of the octagon. The former UFC women’s bantamweight champion has landed another acting role.
According to TMZ, Rousey will make a guest appearance on NBC’s “Blindspot.” Rousey will play a prison inmate that’s behind bars serving time for transporting weapons across state lines. The episode is reportedly scheduled to air in early May.
Rousey has been out of the spotlight since her last UFC fight. She lasted just 48 seconds on Dec. 30 when facing Amanda Nunes in the main event of UFC 207, and Rousey hasn’t discussed what’s next for herself as a fighter. She was knocked out in her previous fight in November 2015, and it’s thought by many, including UFC president Dana White, that the ex-champ is done competing inside the cage.
That could mean more acting roles for Rousey, whose crossover appeal has already landed her multiple gigs in Hollywood. She last appeared on Comedy Central’s “Drunk History” in November, and she will star in the upcoming remake of “Road House.” Rousey’s acting credits also include appearances in “Entourage,” “Furious 7” and “The Expendables 3.”
Conor McGregor is currently the biggest name in UFC, but that title once belonged to Rousey. She became one of the sport’s few mainstream stars by dominating the women’s division, starting her MMA career with 12 straight victories. Before she was defeated by Holly Holm more than 13 months ago, Rousey won three consecutive fights in 64 total seconds.
Rousey made a record-tying $3 million purse for her UFC 207 fight.
