The royal family is better off without Prince Andrew, Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and Autumn Phillips.
Last year, the Duke of York announced his resignation following his controversial Newsnight interview. Prince Andrew denied that he had sex with Virginia Roberts. However, his efforts only backfired because the public believed it was better if he just shut his mouth about the matter.
Earlier this year, Prince Harry and Markle announced that they were stepping back as senior members of the royal family. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex flew to Canada after renouncing their royal roles. A week ago, the palace also announced that Peter Philipps and wife Autumn are divorcing.
According to Dominic Sandbrook in an article for Daily Mail, a slimmed down royal is better off without Prince Andrew, Prince Harry, Markle and Autumn. He said that the Duke of York is “unlikely to recover from the self-inflicted damage to his reputation caused by his links to the pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, and it is hard to see what, if any, part he can play in public life.”
"You can probably guess that I don’t really think these individuals will be much missed. Apart from blameless, devoted Philip, I believe we need not mourn their departure. Rather, I believe that we are far better off without them,” Sandbrook wrote.
He believed that the more royals are in the picture, the greater the royal family’s risk to be embroiled in a scandal. However, he recognized Camilla Parker Bowles for attending 224 engagements last year, Kate Middleton for carrying out 115 duties despite being a mother of three and Princess Anne for being the “hardest working royal” with over 506 engagements in 2019.
He added that there are few lesser-known royals who deserve credit like the Queen’s cousin, 75-year-old Duke of Gloucester, who carried out 226 engagements last year.
“You get the picture: a relatively tight-knit team, with a handful of core members and some reliable supporting actors,” Sandbrook added.
Prince Harry and Markle were spotted for the first time in public after their royal exit over the weekend. The couple was seen taking a commercial flight to Canada. They were from the United States trying to carve out new business ventures.
Meanwhile, Prince Andrew will be attending Princess Beatrice’s royal wedding on May 29. His attendance was confirmed despite speculations that the royal bride considered banning him to avoid drama on her big day.
