  • Mike Tindall announced that his wife Zara Tindall is pregnant with their third child
  • The former rugby player is hoping that they will have a boy this time
  • Zara and Mike haven't told their daughter Mia about her upcoming sibling yet

Queen Elizabeth II and the other members of the royal family will be welcoming another baby next year because Mike and Zara Tindall are expecting their third child together.

Mike announced Zara's pregnancy when he appeared in "The Good, The Bad, & The Rugby" podcast Wednesday. The former England rugby captain, 42, told his co-hosts, "It’s been a good week for me, had a little scan last week — third Tindall on its way."

Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip are aware of the news and the senior royals are "delighted," their spokesman told People.

Mike didn't hide his excitement about their upcoming baby. Mike and Zara are already parents to two girls, Mia Grace, 6, and Lena Elizabeth, 2. This time, Mike is hoping that they will have a boy.

"We’re not sure what to do," Mike said.

"I’d like a boy this time. I’ve got two girls. I would like a boy, but I will love it whatever, whether it’s a boy or a girl but please be a boy!"

When asked for a potential name, Mike jokingly shared that they were considering the topical 2020 monikers like "Covey or Covina."

During the interview, Mike has also shared that they haven't told their kids about their upcoming sibling. The father of two said they didn't tell Mia because they knew she would tell everyone at school. But they are now ready to tell the good news.

"I think she’ll be happy about it. She has been requesting another sister or brother, so we’ve hopefully fulfilled that role for her. She just wants something different now. Lena is growing up – she’s two-and-a-half now. She wants someone younger to play with and dress up," Mike added.

In 2018, Queen Elizabeth II's granddaughter shared that she went through her second miscarriage. It happened before she became pregnant with her second daughter, Lena.

"You don't talk about it because it's too raw. But as with everything, time's a great healer," she was quoted by the BBC as saying at the time.

Meghan Markle also announced in November that she suffered a miscarriage. The duchess shared the painful experience to encourage compassion and conversation around pregnancy loss.
