Royal Fans Discuss Princess Charlotte Possibly Joining Military Like Dad Prince William
Princess Charlotte is the only daughter of Prince William and Kate Middleton. When she grows up, she might join the military just like her dad and uncle, Prince Harry.
On the online forum site Quora, royal fans shared their thoughts on the future of the young royal in terms of her possible military service. Some are convinced that she wouldn’t be required to take part in military service, while others said that the decision will be entirely up to her.
Royal fan Melissa Marshall said that she suspects that Princess Charlotte would most likely have an honorary military title and rank just like Princess Anne. In this case, she doesn’t have to formally join the military to be able to be a part of it.
“The Queen does not require every male member of her immediate family to serve in the armed forces… Her son, Prince Edward, did not. It is, however, a family tradition,” she said.
Seren Verch Dafydd, a graduate of Ohio State University, said that majority of the Queen’s children served in the military. However, women have not traditionally served because they could only serve in supporting roles until the 20th century.
Dafydd also said that Princess Charlotte is just 3 years old so planning her future career as early as now doesn’t really make sense.
“She could choose a military career or serve in a field that supports the military like engineering or medicine. She may also turn out to have artistic or musical talent and choose a career in those fields,” she said.
Ernest W. Adams, a resident of the United Kingdom, said that the question is interesting because the Queen has always wanted the monarchy to have a close relationship with the military. But it is important to note that while her male descendants have served, Princess Anne did not.
Nigel Boon, a Vicar Retd at the Church of England said that it is not a tradition for female royals to serve in the military so Princess Charlotte might not.
