Princess Diana passed away on Aug. 31, 1997, but some royal fans are wondering if the Princess of Wales could still be alive.

On the online forum site Quora, royal fans weighed in on rumors that the mom of two faked her own death to escape the public life. Diane Bell, a geographer, said Princess Diana didn’t fake her own death because she wanted to live a more private life.

After all, Princess Diana loved her life in the spotlight and she also loved Prince William and Prince Harry too much to convince them that she’s dead when she’s actually alive.

“For Diana to miss out on the glitzy weddings of her sons and the births of her grandchildren is unthinkable. She loved children and to deny herself time with George, Charlotte, and Louis and any other grandchildren to come, is again unthinkable,” he said.

Frances De La Rue, a former claims supervisor, said that Princess Diana would have resurfaced by now if she’s really alive. If Princess Diana faked her death to lead a private life, it still wouldn’t make much sense if it meant not being part of her loved ones’ lives.

Sallie Smythe, a royalist and monarchist, said that Princess Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell, was one of the first members of the royal household to see a deceased Princess of Wales.

“He took with him the clothes that she was dressed and buried in. Burrell had sold every single story possible on Diana… If she were still alive, he would know, and he’d have sold that story long ago,” she said.

Chrissie Nyssen said that there would have been much easier ways of faking one’s death instead of making it seem that she died in a car crash in Paris. Nyssen also said that the suggestion that Princess Diana is still alive is not only ridiculous beyond belief; it is also disrespectful to the Princess of Wales.
