Prince Charles walked Meghan Markle down the aisle on her wedding day to Prince Harry. But the future king only joined his daughter-in-law halfway.

On the online forum site Quora, royal fans talked about whether or not there’s any significance to Prince Charles only walking with the Duchess of Sussex halfway down the aisle and not entirely the minute she stepped inside the church.

Kathleen Grace, an artist and art photographer, said that there’s every significance to what Prince Charles did. Prince Charles paved the way for Markle to have an escort on her wedding day because her dad, Thomas Markle Sr., couldn’t make it.

But since Prince Charles is not Markle’s real dad, the intention of the future king is not to send Markle away or give her off to Prince Harry. Rather, he was just escorting her out of love.

“It was not a father ‘giving away’ his daughter, which was not going to happen, but honored that Meghan was her own person, and on the courtesy of Prince Harry’s father, Prince Charles, to graciously support Meghan and the marriage,” she said.

Leana Saxena, a Buddhist from California, said that the significance of Markle walking down the aisle by herself was to show that she is an independent woman.

“But I think Charles meeting her halfway and walking her down the aisle the rest of the way was a way for him to welcome her into their family. At least that’s how I saw it,” she said.

Thomas wasn’t able to attend his daughter’s royal wedding because he was recovering from a stroke at that time. The former lighting director underwent surgery just days before Markle and Prince Harry tied the knot.

Markle and Thomas are not also on speaking terms after the latter posed for a series of fakes photos ahead of the royal wedding. As of late, Markle still hasn’t spoken to her dad and Thomas has not met his grandson, Archie.
