Royal Mint Baby Coin: Silver ‘Lucky’ Penny To Be Gifted To Babies Born Same Day Kate Middleton Gives Birth [PHOTO]
Mothers who give birth the same day as Kate Middleton will not only give their offspring the same birthday as the royal baby but will also join a small group of newborns that will be gifted a commemorative coin.
According to a report from the Mirror, babies born the same day as Britain’s next Prince or Princess of Cambridge will receive a “lucky” silver penny to commemorate the child’s birth. On behalf of the royal family, the Royal Mint will reportedly send out the coins in blue or pink pouches along with a teddy bear card with the message: “Solid sterling silver good lucky penny.”
“The birth will be a joyous occasion for the whole nation,” said Shane Bissett, Royal Mint currency-maker and director of the monumental coin who confirmed that only 2,013 of the coins were created in honor of the royal child’s 2013 birth year. “It will also be a special day for many mothers and fathers across the country as they, too, welcome their new baby."
The coin, which is silver to represent good health and prosperity, displays a shield of the royal arms. Parents with children that share the same birth date as the royal baby will reportedly have 60 days to claim their coin on the Royal Mint’s Facebook page. While the Royal Mint created the coin in honor of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's first child, those interested in purchasing a coin can do so for any occasion on the mint's website for 28 euros ($36) each.
Middleton is due this month. According to multiple reports, she is expected to deliver on Saturday. The royal child, whose gender and name is unknown, will be born at the Lindo wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in London where Prince William was birthed by the late Princess Diana in 1982.
